                                                                      DUNYAYI BESLEMEK-  HAYAT ICIN ENERJI

Turkish pavilion

expo-1 In every 5 years we are welcoming with new expo in new country within its architecture and culture. Previously it was in Shanghai and this year it is in Milano in Italy until 31st of October. I have not been that one but everybody had very amazing reviews especially in an architectural designs. Architecturally Milan Expo is not as good as Shanghai Expo but still it worth seeing. Easy way to connecting with cultures and people.

If you want to see entire expo, I would recommend you to spend two full days. (online purchasing would be very useful on the ticket queue).

Eger tum Expo’yu gormek istiyorsaniz tam iki gun ayirmanizi tavsiye ederim. ( onceden online bilet alirsaniz bilet sirasinda beklemektende kurtulursunuz)

palazzo 1 Lets start with long-term residence of Expo: Palazzo Italia. There is a huge queue in front of Palazzo Italia whenever we passed by during the day. After we saw the long long queue on the first day outside the Palazzo, we decided to visit it first thing of our second day and we run there as soon as we arrived however we waited around 2 hours. At the end does it worth it? Yes! don’t give up on waiting…

Palazzo Italia is designed by Nemesi & Partners. Building will be remaining after expo finished, government has plans for that site as future business district or new development area since they extended the metro line over there too. This is an another issue for Expos, Yes they are very good cultural and international commercial and brings good money and tourism However to use them into good benefit, it needs good future plan strategy. Milan is about to achieve this goal since starting with beautiful Palazzo Italia.

Palazzo Italia is significantly catch your attention from miles away with its  facade design.

Concept design of the building is petrified forest with branch shapes. Facade is designed with ‘lattice skin weave’ with double facade. This design lines create light and shadow play on the surface. Therefore building is able to evaluate the natural light very well. Building designed and conceived as a sustainable energy building values. Materials used on the exterior; GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) and photovoltaic glass (glass which is converting solar energy into electric energy) and on the vaulted roof with steel beams and photovoltaic glass.

Oncelikle Expo’nun kalici sakininden baslayalim gezimize, Plazzo Italia. Evet! Vazgecmeyin…

Plazzo Italia projesi, Nemesi & Partners tarafindan tasarlandi.

Palazzo Italia

Inside the building, you are welcome with beautiful crazy architecture. Huge steel supporting beam elements, curved lines. interior facade is like building inside building. On the exterior there are only GFRC and glass within branch skin weaving by contrast with inside architect shows everything about facade cladding in an artistic way (huge steel beams in between lattice skin weave cladding, skylights, steel rods around steel beam)  I love to talk about Palazzo Italia all day long but I should continue talking about Expo…

I think I should skip the other side of the expo. There worth seeing pavilions, crazy architecture designs, amazing foods, good opportunity to meet with other cultures are waiting for me. Let me share my favourite points of Expo.

IMG_8086This year theme is ‘feeding the planet, energy for life’. In accordance with this theme countries have to follow some points. Pavilions must be easily dismantled and recycled. They should have open space for vegetation and disable access.

Galiba Expo’nun diger kismina da gecmeliyim artik. Gorulmeye deger pavilyonlar, cilgin mimari dizaynlar. harika yemekler, farkli kulturler ile tanismak icin guzel firsatlar beni bekliyor. Expo’da ki favorilerimi paylasaysam iyi olur.

IMG_7845

IMG_7811-001

There are many great pavilions but i am gonna talk about my top 4.

IMG_8072

1- Bahrain Pavilion:

I think it is the real Expo pavilion. If you seen Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe in Barcelona, you would understand what I mean. Pure, simple design, very welcoming and calm- relaxing. There are beautiful trees and nice lemon odour from them.  It is the place where you can grab you coffee and book and relax all day. By the way it has very clean and good toilet, like toilets in Harrods.

IMG_8104_Fotor

IMG_8101_Fotor1- Bahreyn Pavilyonu: Bence gercek Expo pavilyonu.

2- Chile Pavilion: Chili pavilion is welcoming you with its vernacular timber architecture. The building design is not complex and Chile is the few country in the expo who catch the real theme of the expo as the architectural and theme. I have to say there are 4 countries that effected me with their audio visual display and Chile is one the them (others are Hondulus, Holy Sea, Chile and UAE). They have very good food court on the downstair, nice place for lunch spot.  Pumpkin is part of their national cuisine and they made pumpkin with every type of food, you should definitely try!

IMG_8278_Fotor-001

IMG_8052

IMG_8087_Fotor-0013- UAE Pavilion: Pavilion is designed by Foster & Partner with the concept idea of weather condition of Milan and UAE. Pavilion will be dismantling and  transforming to Emirates after Expo is finished. Design of the pavilion is like narrow walkway on canyon or you picture yourself on traditional Arabic town. I like the architectural concept of the pavilion overall. In inside; audio visual display was very successful, unlike the other countries UAE focus on the ‘it’s lack of food and water sources’ and ‘how should they solve it’. This made me more interested than others. This is one of the must must seen pavilion.

2020 Expo will be held in Dubai and theme is ‘ connecting minds, creating the future’. At the end of the expo they ask your advise and opinions.

4- China Pavilion:  Another timber structure with theme of “the land of hope’ on a massive site. Architecturally I was impressed with this pavilion and found it as attractive as Chile. Timber construction is referred to traditional Chinese architecture with ‘raised beam’  system. Roof framework is comprised of glulam timber profiles and roof structure is enhanced with more than 1000 bamboo panels. Roof design is very effective in terms of light and shadow usage.  There is a long walk tour inside it and exhibition are worth to see.

IMG_7763_Fotor3

Come to choose the ‘Crazy Architectures’ of the Expo; my crazy pavilions are British Pavilion and Kuwait Pavilion.

IMG_8071_2_Fotor2

 IMG_7851_Fotor-001

Apart from favourite spots of Expo, obviously there are some disappointments;

– Waiting more than an hour queue out of Japan pavilion and having boring and uninteresting presentation.

  • Italion pavilion occupy two long street and full with bunch of booths notwithstanding it is not very attractive in general view.
  • Malaysia pavilion has architecture but very week interior design and a/v display as well.

IMG_7943-001

 Expo’nun guzel kisimlarinin disinda tabii kide bazi hayalkiriliklari vardi;

Must see pavilions: Uruguay and Holy See and Intesa  and Russia and Turkey and Polland and Vanke pavilion designed by Daniel Libeskind.

IMG_7815_Fotor-003

IMG_7882_FotorDont leave before drinking a coffe in Colombia pavilion and having a croissant in French pavilion, also this could be your breakfast and food shopping in Slow food which is designed by Herzog & de Meuron and of course black tea at Turkish Pavilion.

Dont leave before swinging in Estonia pavilion If you have a time and energy stay till sunset and watch the water show on ‘tree of life

Muhakkak gormeniz gereken pavilyonlar: Uruguay,  Holy See, Rusya, Turkiye, Polanya ve Daniel Libeskind tarafindan tasarlanan Vanke pavilyonu.

IMG_7889_Fotor-001

Estonya pavilyonunda salincakta sallanmadan, zamaniniz ve gun sonunda enerjiniz var ise ‘tree of life’in su gosterilerini gunes battiktan sonra izlemeden Expo’dan ayrilmayin.
